You will find below an overview of our current projects and regular service we attend
Open House at Saint Patrick’s
Our club regularly volunteers at the Open House in St. Patrick’s Church, Soho Square. We serve dinner to the homeless and those in need and sit down with them for a so needed chat. The church experienced queues of around 200 people twice a day during last year's lockdown. They are always in need of new volunteers and Westminster is proud to facilitate that!
Dinner is served on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays every week. Whilst the Breakfast Club is open on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Sunday Film Club is reopening soon as well, after a break due to the pandemic.
Toy Boxes at Kids Out
KidsOut is a charity funded in 1990 by Lady Grantchester, Rotarian in Kingston. Among other projects, KidsOut delivers a box of brand-new toys and games to children who have been rehoused due to domestic violence.
20,000 children flee domestic abuse every year. Receiving a Toy Box can help children regain a sense of normality after leaving their school, friends and possessions behind.
If you chose to volunteer with us, you’d be building boxes for children from 0 to 12 years old with a family game, puzzles, craft activities, dolls, books and many more games! A fun day to reminisce about your favourite childhood games.
Doorstep Library
The Doorstep Library was funded after alarming statistics revealed that one in four 11-year-olds leave Primary School unable to read well.
Its purpose is to instil a love of reading for pleasure whilst creating a safe and cheerful environment. Given you’d visit the families directly in their home, it adds a personal dimension and provides additional support for parents. Online options available too.
Circle of Support and Accountability at Respond
For people with learning disabilities and/or autism who have experienced trauma and abuse, including those who have gone on to abuse others. Respond acknowledges that people with learning disabilities who often exhibit harmful behaviour often do so as a result of isolation, stigmatisation and unsafe living conditions.
Its aim is to build safer communities through local volunteers working with sex offenders to minimise alienation.
Training and support provided for all applicants and volunteers.
Christmas at Rotaract
This Christmas we would like to ask our members and guests to support us with two projects.
Angel Tree at Prison Fellowship:
A project that enables parents in prison to send gifts to their children. We would like to help a local group packing and sending gifts.
Gifts for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital:
We would like to fundraise to gift toys and happiness to children in hospital this Christmas.
If you would like to partake in any of the projects mentioned above, reach us via rotaractwestminsterclub@gmail.com or feel this form https://forms.gle/YArztM7gUyp1zGog7
Past Projects
We teamed up with The Castle Climbing Centre to raise awareness and funds for young asylum seekers and refugees seeking education in the UK.
The average young refugee has travelled 4,000 miles to reach safety. Hope for the Young called for 4,000 collective climbs to raise £4,000 to help young refugees gain a better future.
Our club has collectively climbed over 220 metres and donated over £220 - roughly £1 per metre we reached!
We plan to organise more projects like this one, join our meetings if you’d like to know more and sign up!
